LATERA is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small, dissolvable implant to support the nasal valve. It addresses nasal obstruction caused by nasal valve collapse, also known as vestibular stenosis. This collapse can significantly impact breathing, especially during exercise or sleep. LATERA helps open the nasal valve, improving airflow and relieving congestion.
The LATERA procedure can be performed in our office under local anesthesia or in the operating room in conjunction with other nasal procedures. A small, dissolvable implant is inserted into the nasal valve area to support and prevent collapse. The procedure is quick, typically taking only a few minutes, and patients experience minimal discomfort.
LATERA primarily addresses nasal obstruction caused by nasal valve collapse, which can lead to:

LATERA specifically targets the nasal valve, a critical area for airflow within the nasal passages.

You may be a candidate for LATERA if you experience nasal obstruction due to nasal valve collapse. A simple test, the Cottle Maneuver (gently pulling on your cheek to see if breathing improves), can indicate if LATERA might be right for you. However, a consultation with our ENT specialists is essential to determine if this procedure is appropriate for your specific needs.

Recovery from LATERA is typically quick. Although mild nasal congestion or discomfort may persist for a few days after the procedure, most patients can return to normal activities shortly after. We will provide specific post-procedure instructions to ensure a comfortable recovery.
Many patients notice some improvement in breathing shortly after the LATERA procedure. Full results, including a significant reduction in nasal congestion and improved airflow, are typically noticeable within a few weeks. While the implant dissolves over time, it stimulates the formation of a fibrous capsule that provides ongoing support. Results can last a year or more; some patients report even longer-lasting benefits.
